Yellowbag

The Yellowbag is a huge bicycle pannier for the rear rack.

The Yellowbag is completely rainproof. Aerodynamic drag with the Yellowbag is even lower than without a bag and, of course, much lower than with ordinary panniers. The Yellowbag can hold bulky items that would never fit in other bike bags. Ideally, the Yellowbag stays permanently attached to the bike and can accommodate a daypack, a large backpack, or a moderate amount of weekend groceries as needed. Even one or two beer crates are no problem for the Yellowbag. If necessary, however, the Yellowbag can be removed from the rack at any time. Since the Yellowbag is mounted on top of the rack, two additional large panniers—or two aerodynamic, elongated bags, also available—can be easily attached underneath. For this purpose, it's advantageous to mount a lowrider rack on top of your existing rack.

We had offered the Yellowbag for commercial use on a made-to-order basis, but we have had to withdraw this offer because not a single prospective customer came forward.

The Yellowbag consists of a sturdy plywood panel that is securely attached to the bike rack and a PVC tarp that closes by rolling it up and securing it with a snap fastener. The bag can be secured to the bike rack using removable strap buckles, cable ties, or screw fasteners. Cable ties and strap buckles are included with the bag.
The bag has an enormous capacity and keeps the cargo securely in place on the bike rack.
For many of our friends, the bag has already proven itself over more than 10 years of everyday use and many thousands of kilometers. Cyclists whose bags were worn out after tens of thousands of kilometers of daily use immediately had a new bag made because they could no longer do without the Yellowbag.

If anyone is interested in building a replica, they can download the drawings and building instructions here. (sadly only in German language)
Building a replica for personal use is free. Anyone wishing to build the Yellowbag commercially according to the instructions is asked to contact us (any patent pendings are expired; only copyright protection remains, which can be easily circumvented. Nevertheless, I would appreciate being contacted in this case).
